According to the Express Employment Professionals-Harris Poll survey, Canadian job seekers are raising concerns about the current labour market, as they perceive they are losing their bargaining power in the job market. More than half of job seekers (57%), noted concerns about finding a job in the next six months. According to the research, job seekers perceive there are fewer job opportunities available (38%, up from 31%). Furthermore, unemployed Canadians noted they are experiencing longer periods of unemployment, with 38% reporting being unemployed for more than two years.
Among job seekers who are currently employed, their top fears regarding their current job include concerns surrounding not getting a raise (47%), a reduction in work opportunities (32%), a reduction in workforce (27%), and technology replacing their position (23%). More than half of employed job seekers (53%) reported working longer hours and more shifts than usual in the past year (up from 37%).
