BYE BYE BIBBY: A celebration of human migration and diversity.
Portland, Dorset – [08/01/2025] – The floating detention centre, Bibby Stockholm, which housed over 450 men seeking asylum, is set to make its final departure from Portland Harbour. During its time moored in Dorset, the Bibby became a symbol of both division and resilience, with riots erupting across the UK targeting asylum seekers. However, amidst the turmoil, a different story unfolded in the community of Portland—one of grassroots action, inclusion, and solidarity.
Photographers Thomas Ralph and Theo McInnes documented this powerful journey, capturing the connections forged between the asylum seekers and the people of Portland under the title of Bibby Boys.
We invite you to join us in celebrating this remarkable journey and to wave Bye Bye to the Bibby at Careys Secret Garden, Dorset, from Friday 17th January to Sunday 19th January. The event will feature a special exhibition of work inspired by the Bibby Stockholm and its residents, including pieces by Led By Donkeys, Cold War Steve, Edmund Hall and a preview of the upcoming Bibby Boys photographic exhibition.
