Over 300 supporters raise £21,400 for University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity at Walk for Wards

From little feet to long strides, the turnout at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity’s Walk for Wards event was truly heartwarming.

Hundreds of families, friends, NHS colleagues and local groups filled Upton Country Park and House in Poole on Saturday 28 September 2024 with joyful laughter and community spirit. Together, the community stepped out in style for their local hospitals and raised an incredible £21,479.38!

With this generous support, University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity will be able to enhance the departments at Royal Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch Hospitals, which hold special significance for our Walk for Wards participants.
This funding will be directed towards innovative projects and cutting-edge equipment, elevating the care and experience for patients and the dedicated NHS teams who serve them.

University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity public fundraising officer, Amy Beauchamp, said: “The energy at Walk for Wards was just amazing this year despite some rough weather leading up to the day. Seeing so many people come out to support University Hospitals Dorset was a powerful reminder of the compassion and kindness that make our communities across Dorset truly special. We are deeply grateful to our sponsors, Hot Radio and Care South, for leading the way with their unwavering support for Walk for Wards. We’d also like to thank everyone who cheered on our Walk for Wards participants! Together, we truly went the extra mile for University Hospitals Dorset!”

Walk for Wards’ gold sponsor, Hot Radio, turned up the volume on their longstanding support for University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity with their phenomenal team of Hot Walkers composed of Hot Radio staff, supporters and listeners raised a show-stopping £7,377 for The BEACH Appeal.

University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity is fundraising £1.5m to enhance the BEACH Building with various additional items – above and beyond NHS funding – that will ensure the facility has everything it needs to take our healthcare into the future.

Hot Radio commercial director, Alan Smith, said: “We were extremely proud to be the lead sponsor of this truly amazing event once again. With the help of our staff, volunteers, listeners, clients and sponsors, along with our very own Hot Walkers, we delivered an amazing result and raised more than last year! We have already confirmed our sponsorship for 2025 and have some exciting plans to help even more people engage with this event and raise more money. I may have to reduce my own walk down from 10k to 5k next year, as, wow, it turned out to be more challenging than I thought!”

Care South head of PR and marketing, Chris Golding, said: “Not only was the fundraising event a fun activity that both the staff and the residents in our care very much enjoyed taking part in, it was also for a very worthy cause. We recognise how our local hospitals play such an important role within our community and touch the lives of all of us at some point, so Care South were delighted to support Walk for Wards.”

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Walk for Wards 2024, and we can’t wait to see more smiling faces next year!
