The Righting Relations Non-Profit Sector Change Lab developed the Non-Profit Sector Toolkit: Addressing Toxicity in Non-Profits, in collaboration with the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights. The toolkit was developed based on a report, Reflections on Transforming the Non-Profit Sector: Addressing Toxicity in Non-Profits: A Survey, that examined how the nonprofit sector could be transformed. This work was supported by funding from the Catherine Donnelly Foundation and Women and Gender Equality Canada.
The toolkit delves into white supremacy in the nonprofit structure, individual and collective coping mechanisms, and includes a section on transforming the nonprofit sector – the vision. Each section wraps up with a release your feelings section or a reflection activity. The toolkit concludes with a final reflection portion, which includes a circle activity and final remarks. The purpose of the resource is to help nonprofits adopt decolonizing, heart-centred practices that meet the needs of people and workers.
