The National Gallery of Canada (NGC), in partnership with the Audain Art Foundation, announced that applications are now open for the new Audain Fellowship in Indigenous Historical Art. This new research-based residency is funded by the “Audain Indigenous Curatorial Scholar in Residence” program endowment. This residency will support research and scholarship that leads to best practices for institutions which collect, exhibit and conserve Indigenous contemporary, historic or traditional artforms. This 3-year appointment is intended for senior Indigenous scholars, art historians, curators or conservators.

The residency includes:

  • Stipend: $50,000 per year
  • Travel: $20,000 per year
  • Access to NGC collections and staff
  • Dedicated publication: (to be produced during the third year of the fellowship)
  • Administrative support
