Webinar with Maryam Taher (Universities of Sanctuary), Hannah Carbery (Student Action for Refugees) & Sam Forrest (University of Leicester’s Oxfam Society) run as part of Breaking Barriers Refugee Week (1-5 March 2021) at the University of Leicester.
Hosted by Pascale Roussel (Sanctuary Seekers’ Unit, University of Leicester).

Supporting people of asylum and refugee backgrounds at your university is an extremely important and rewarding experience. Both the University and the city of Leicester are places of Sanctuary, providing scholarships and a welcoming community to those seeking protection in the UK. You can offer so much more to this movement as a student. Join this presentation to hear all about STAR, university activities you can get involved with, and some top tips about what you can do at Leicester. You’ll also hear about what it means to be a University of Sanctuary, and how students and staff can work together to embed an environment of welcome on campus.

Students at other UK universities may also find this webinar useful.

Following this webinar, a few students expressed an interest in creating a STAR group at Leicester. If you too would like to help, feel free to contact STAR via their website http://www.star-network.org.uk/
