15 domestic workers and counting! Your generosity has positively impacted the lives of these domestic workers to obtain vital resources to support their families. Rent, food, clothes, access to basic wifi, school uniforms and supplies –have all been made possible. Your contribution also prevents exposure to high-risk situations for women who must venture outside of their communities for survival. Our work is not done yet. More people still need our help.
Every day, South Africa’s domestic workers — estimated to be more than 1 million people — bear the brunt of emotional, physical, and economic violence so that they can protect themselves and their families. Their work has become even more dangerous during the global COVID-19 pandemic, which has worsened the disproportionate injustices and racial disparities experienced by our society’s most vulnerable populations.
What can we do?
In partnership with the United Domestic Workers of South Africa, we are raising money to provide as many as 100 Resiliency Grants to support domestic workers in need.
What are Resiliency Grants?
Resiliency Grants are micro grants designed to help ensure recipients have access to basic human rights including food, water, shelter, and safety.
How are Resiliency Grants recipients selected?
The United Domestic Workers of South Africa has already identified and vetted potential recipients who have qualified for assistance. All donations will be transferred directly to their bank accounts or e-wallet
