North East Solidarity and Teaching (N.E.S.T) is a volunteer project making a difference in the lives of refugees and asylum seekers, created by students at Newcastle University.

The student-led volunteer project empowers the refugee and asylum-seeking community in the North East of England. It provides English language classes, sports, creative arts, and trips to help learners integrate into the community and build new friendships.

What NEST does:

– Teach English through various means, including one-on-one tutoring, group classes, and conversation circles.
– Offer sports and creative arts programs that promote physical and mental health, as well as cultural exchange.
– Take learners on trips to local attractions, museums, and events to help them learn about the North East and its culture.
– Provide support and advice to learners on a range of issues, including housing, employment, and healthcare.
