2024 Sustainable Development Goal Gender Index: A gender equal future in crisis?

The 2024 Sustainable Development Goal Gender Index by Equal Measures 2030 examines the progress of the Gender Equality Sustainable Development Goal. The report notes that no country is on track to achieve gender equality by 2030, and Equal Measures 2030 stresses this finding is a call to action for global solidarity and cooperative effort. According to the research, if the rate of change continues at this pace, gender equality will not be achieved until the 22nd century.

A key finding from the research, nearly 40 percent of countries stagnated or even declined in regard to gender equality between 2019 and 2022.  These findings do not only impact the Gender Equality Sustainable Development Goal, without gender equality 74% of  Sustainable Development Goals will not be achieved. Equal Measures 2030 coalition members and gender champions noted several interconnected crises linked to resources, democracy, and safety and security that are already having a negative impact on gender equality.
