Securian Canada released a new report, Behind the Gig: Securian Canada Insights, which revealed that nearly one-quarter of Canadians (22%) are participating in gig work. The study, conducted in collaboration with the Angus Reid Institute, found that most Canadians engage in gig work out of financial necessity. Economic pressures are leading Canadians to gig work, with more than half of gig workers (57%) relying on gig income to supplement their primary income. According to the research, 73% of gig workers are employed outside of their gig work, and 31% of gig workers noted the increased cost of living as the reason for participating in the gig economy.
