According to a recent TELUS Mental Health Index, physically active employees were reported to lose 10 fewer working days of productivity annually in comparison to their sedentary counterparts. The Index for September 2024 found that workers’ mental health had improved from August, and the mental health scores of managers continue to be higher than the scores of non-managers.
The study found that less than half of workers (49%) have a healthy diet, and 10% of workers report following an unhealthy diet. The mental health score for the group following the unhealthy diet was more than 21 points lower than for workers following a healthy diet. Employees with diagnosed mental health conditions experience the most significant productivity losses. While employees dissatisfied with their physical health have a mental health score of 22 points lower than satisfied workers, according to the Index, this group loses an additional 21 working days in productivity annually compared to satisfied workers.
