Nearly half of Canadian organizations plan to add new positions in the first half of 2025

Robert Half released new research, which found that nearly half of Canadian organizations plan to add new positions in the first half of 2025. The study found that new hiring will dip slightly from 2024. Meanwhile, recruiting for vacant positions will increase. Organizations report plans to add new permanent positions, according to the State of Canadian Hiring Survey. Of the organizations planning to increase hiring in 2025, nearly half (47%) cited organizational growth as the primary factor influencing hiring decisions. Employee turnover rates (44%) and the emergence of new projects (41%) were also identified as key factors driving hiring.

According to the study, the ramifications of not filling open roles include:

  • Decreased productivity (40%)
  • Stretched bandwidth and burnout of existing staff (39%)
  • Delayed project timelines (34%)
  • Inability to support critical business initiatives (31%)
